Mama Susana Ntumngia’s Biography

Susana Matuh Ntumngia nee Tisighe was born on January 1st, 1949 in Buchi, Pinyin to Pa Muluh Tisighe and Ma Martha Wenyi. She was the third of five children from her mother. She attended the vernacular school at the Basel Mission School, Santa in 1955. She began primary school in 1956 at the Government Primary School which was known as the Native Authority School. While at Primary School she was a track and field athlete and also played handball during the Interschool games.

After finishing Primary School in 1963, she was employed by Basel Mission as a pupil teacher in Santa. While there she met Papa Martin Suh Ntumngia who was teaching in the same school as a secondary school leaver. Pa Ntumngia was coaching final year pupils willing to write various entrance exams. She joined his coaching classes which enabled her to pass entrance into the Women Teachers Training College (WTTC), Mankon. It was during the coaching classes that she got close to Papa Martin Suh Ntumngia. She attended all the afternoon classes taught by her future husband, Papa Martin Ntumngia. With time they became interested in each other and eventually began a courtship which later led on into holy matrimony.

In September 1965, she attended the Womens Teachers Training College (WTTC), Mankon and graduated in June 1968. After graduation she was employed to teach in primary school for 1 year in Bamenda.

In July 20th, 1969, she married Martin Ntumngia and they resided in Yaoundé. Their union was blessed with seven children: Mankaa Wenyi, Ngum Afanwi, Bi Azinwi, Neba Muluh (of blessed memory), Matuh Akongnwi, Lum Nchang and Mangwi Neh.

In 1978, Ma Susana left Yaoundé for Bamenda while her husband went to Abidjan, Ivory Coast for greener pastures. While in Bamenda, she taught at the Government Primary School, Atuakom. Mama being a dynamic and industrious woman taught during the day and at night studied and passed her grade two and grade one teacher’s certificate.

In 1982, she went to join her husband in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. While in Abidjan, she continued teaching at the Private Preparatory School (PPS) in Deux Plateaux for several years.

In 1989, she decided to leave the classroom and become a dynamic business woman. She opened up Suma Couture and Coiffure, a clothing and hair salon business that was patronized by international clients. While in Abidjan, she ushered at the International Protestant Church of Abidjan and also provided flowers for the church. She also loved to cook and entertain and was very well known in the African Development Bank community as a great cook. Mama was always advising and encouraging the young women on how to run their homes and how to take care of their newborn babies.

She and her late husband left Abidjan in August 2003 to Cameroon. While in Cameroon, Mama wasn’t ready for retirement so she opened Suman Fashion Center at T-Junction in Bamenda where she continued to sell fashionable clothing and shoes. Mama Susan was very devoted to her family and was a wonderful wife, caring mother, sister and aunt, mother-in-law and friend. She shall truly be missed by the community for her generous and caring nature, as she was also a mother to the motherless. She leaves behind her children, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, son-in-laws, grandchildren and friends. She joins her husband, son, mother, father and all loved ones gone before her.

Farewell beautiful, godly and intelligent mom. May your legacy live on throughout the generations. God bless.

“Her Children arised and call her blessed. Her husband also, and he praises her.”
